Job Summary

The Youth Care Worker - Relief Position is a critical role at United Methodist Children's Home, where we provide nurturing, direct care, and supervision to residents in a group home environment. As a Relief Youth Care Worker, you will work closely with the Group Home Manager to provide support and training in basic living skills to help each resident achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other staff to provide supervision and support to residents.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Develop a deep understanding of residents' social history to better address their emotional difficulties and needs.
  • Provide transportation to school, appointments, and recreational activities.
  • Plan and prepare nutritionally balanced meals.
  • Administer medication to residents as needed.
  • Implement the UMCH Behavior Management Policy, which prohibits harsh or corporal punishment.
  • Provide Basic Living Skills training in accordance with the Alabama Medicaid Manual Chapter 105 and individual treatment plans.
  • Be sensitive to residents' cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Provide praise and positive feedback to enhance residents' self-confidence and esteem.
  • Administer consequences in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Maintain and coordinate residents' daily schedules, including meals, household chores, school attendance, and extracurricular activities.
  • Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Follow UMCH policies regarding safety practices, procedures, and universal precautions.
  • Implement fire and tornado drills.
  • Adhere to UMCH policies and procedures, as well as Minimum Standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with other staff and the Program Manager to develop strategies for handling stressful and emergency situations.
  • Maintain the group home in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least six months of paid experience working with youth and/or families in a residential or similar environment.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Ability to physically participate in various activities with residents.
  • Proficiency in computer use and basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for professional interaction with staff, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Proof of automobile liability insurance and a driving record that allows coverage on the Agency's insurance policy.
  • Satisfactory background check, including employment and personal references, criminal history, driving background, Child Abuse & Neglect Registry, and a pre-employment physical examination, including a TB skin test and drug screen.
