General Overview:

The Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education at James Madison University is seeking applications for a full-time teaching role commencing in the upcoming academic year. This position is a one-year appointment with potential for renewal, offering full-time benefits. The role reports to the Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education within the College of Education, funded through collaboration with the School of Professional & Continuing Education.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Deliver four courses each semester (eight annually) in the area of literacy education for JMU's teacher preparation programs across elementary, middle, secondary, and special education.
2. Mentor and guide undergraduate teacher candidates in enhancing their literacy teaching skills and knowledge.
3. Actively participate in the Literacy Program by contributing to departmental and college initiatives, attending meetings, and serving on committees.
4. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about current trends and advancements in literacy education at both state and national levels.

Required Qualifications:

- A Master's degree in education or a related discipline.
- Significant professional experience within the last five years in K-12 educational settings.
- A valid Virginia teaching license.
- Preferred: current endorsement or degree as a literacy or reading specialist.
