Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Technologist II to join our team at Washington University in St. Louis. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and special molecular assays on blood, body fluids, and solid tissue, as well as assisting with all technical aspects of clinical and research studies and experiments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high-complexity assays according to laboratory standard operating procedures, including instrument maintenance and assay troubleshooting.
  • Assist with validation of new assays, compile data for supervisory review, and utilize specific analysis, database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
  • Comply with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
  • Ensure lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures and regulatory policies.
  • Coordinate and maintain ordering of all reagents, consumables, and other regularly used office supplies.
  • Assist with education and training of laboratory personnel with regard to laboratory procedures and compliance of established regulatory procedures.
  • Participate in relevant continuing education programs and seminars.
  • Perform initial statistical analysis and review of data, and prepare initial result reports for supervisory review.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and chemicals, and will be required to wear protective devices. The physical effort required for this position includes working with lab/research equipment.

Requirements
  • Associate degree in a relevant field.
  • 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • American Society Clinical Pathology - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification.
  • Experience with assay, capillary electrophoresis (CE), clinical studies, continuing learning, instrument repairs, laboratory testing, molecular biology techniques, new hire training, nucleic acid extraction, ordering supplies, organizing, PCR amplification, sequence analysis, standard operating procedure (SOP), statistical analysis, systematic work, task management, teamwork, and working independently.
