Job Title: Responsible Sourcing Manager

Costco is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Responsible Sourcing Manager to join our team. As a key member of our sustainability team, you will be responsible for advancing our global sustainability initiatives throughout the supply chain for specific commodities and geographic regions considered high risk for human rights violations.

In this role, you will work closely with our buying teams, suppliers, and external partners to develop responsible sourcing initiatives that support our objectives of identifying, mitigating, and remediating adverse impacts to the people making our products, while also supporting environmental stewardship objectives.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and developing expertise in best practices for identifying, mitigating, and remediating adverse impacts to people in our supply chains.
  • Reviewing benchmarking by external stakeholders of Costco's human rights due diligence processes.
  • Providing expertise to buying teams via trainings and meetings; serving as a key subject matter expert for buying teams.
  • Assisting buying teams with decisions affecting potential cancellation of product as a result of critical human rights concerns in the supply chain.
  • Attending meetings with Buyers and Suppliers; assisting in supporting suppliers to mature their due diligence processes to address human rights and sustainability.
  • Managing certifications and program initiatives, and supporting data collection for reporting and communication purposes.
  • Supporting the drafting of public-facing human rights due diligence disclosures and the Human Rights page of Costco's Sustainability Commitment website.
  • Working with management on continuing to develop new ideas and new strategies to deploy across the supply chain.
  • Analyzing data from suppliers and others to support reporting on certain key performance indicators.
  • Supporting management in developing responses to members and investors as issues arise.
  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders (value chain partners/other retailers) to achieve systemic change; identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships and alliances; building strong connections with suppliers, industry groups, peers, and relevant NGOs.
  • Attending audits and/or program efforts on the ground at facilities, farms, etc., domestically and abroad.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' relevant work experience.
  • Excellent computer skills - fluency in Google Suite, Google Sheets, MS Office, Excel, Smartsheet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive, mature, professional attitude with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and strong prioritization skills.
  • Passion for human rights, sustainability, environmental conservation, and ethical sourcing topics.
  • Ability to articulate complex topics in a clear way, as well as to present, explain, and discuss them within all levels of the Organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in International Development, Supply Chain Management or similar.
  • Experience in sustainability, supply chain or sourcing is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of Costco's merchandising philosophy, buying, and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
