Position Summary: We are seeking an Environmental Hygiene Project Specialist to leverage their expertise for our clients. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in projects involving asbestos, lead-based paint, microbial assessments, indoor air quality, and other environmental hygiene initiatives. This role necessitates the ability to work autonomously on designated tasks while collaborating effectively with clients and fellow environmental professionals. Travel to remote project locations is a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently identify and collect building materials.
  • Conduct air monitoring activities.
  • Prepare project estimates and reports.
  • Maintain communication with clients.
  • Coordinate and execute specialized environmental projects, including environmental site assessments (Phase I and II ESAs), compliance monitoring programs, and regulatory approvals for industrial facilities.

Additional opportunities may arise for cross-training with our compliance engineering and assessment and remediation teams, which could include stormwater compliance, soil and groundwater sampling, and oversight of drilling and monitoring well construction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial hygiene.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is preferred.
  • North Carolina certifications as an Asbestos Inspector and Asbestos Air Monitor are required, or candidates must meet the experience criteria to obtain these certifications.
  • Preferred certifications include North Carolina Lead Inspector or Lead Risk Assessor, or candidates must meet the experience criteria to obtain these certifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Attention to detail, adherence to deadlines and budgets, coupled with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and overnight as necessary.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts beyond 8 hours when required.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • The Environmental Hygiene Project Specialist must be capable of lifting heavy objects, using ladders, and accessing elevated areas such as roofs and towers, while also being able to work outdoors in varying temperatures, crawlspaces, and abandoned structures.
  • Proficiency with hand tools is essential.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods is required.
  • Must maintain focus and attention to detail for prolonged periods.
  • Successful completion of a medical examination and the ability to wear a negative pressure respirator are mandatory.
  • Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions and at heights is necessary.
  • Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
