Responsibilities

The dental hygienist is responsible for performing licensed hygiene procedures, educating patients, and managing the nonsurgical periodontal program as directed by the dentist. Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining continued patient care relationships.
  • Verifying and documenting patient health history and educating patients about oral hygiene, health, and disease, as well as procedures and services offered.
  • Performing clinical hygiene functions, including exposing and evaluating diagnostic x-rays, taking and recording blood pressure, adult and child prophylaxis, non-surgical periodontal therapy, and co-assessing possible restorative treatments with the doctor.
  • Determining needs and performing sealant placement, Arestin, and fluoride treatments as needed.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Dental hygiene certification from an accredited dental hygiene school.
  • Current hygiene license where employed.
  • Maintain annual OSHA, HIPAA, BLS, and infection control training as required by law.
  • Experience with dental software.
