Automotive Parts Sales Representative - Overview

This role involves assisting customers in selecting automotive components, whether in person, via phone, or through the workshop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and professional assistance to all customers, ensuring they find the necessary parts efficiently.
  • Inform customers about related parts and promotional offers, ensuring they are aware of the complete product range.
  • Handle incoming calls, offering price estimates and relevant information.
  • Review estimates from body shops to confirm accuracy of ordered parts and pricing alignment.
  • Deliver exceptional service to both internal and external clients.
  • Retrieve and prepare orders from inventory.
  • Alert the parts manager regarding any out-of-stock items or urgent shop supplies.
  • Source out-of-stock items from external suppliers and place emergency orders as needed.
  • Notify service advisors and customers upon receipt of special orders.
  • Communicate with the body shop regarding the arrival and delivery of parts.
  • Prepare orders for delivery to the body shop, ensuring all items are labeled with customer details and job numbers.
  • Follow up on any back-ordered items.
  • Conduct weekly verification of will-call and back-order files, returning or stocking items not picked up.
  • Restock assigned inventory on a daily basis.
  • Assist outside sales representatives with their orders.
  • Ensure all internal parts requests are billed appropriately.
  • Process payments from retail customers and obtain necessary credit approvals.
  • Ensure all charge sales are signed by customers.
  • Provide customers with their invoice copies.
  • Manage returns by issuing credits for parts, verifying original invoices for accuracy.
  • Track and issue requested tools to technicians.
  • Maintain organized records of repair orders, invoices, insurance estimates, and special orders.
  • Prepare orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick-up.
  • Engage with assigned accounts via phone for follow-ups.
  • Keep both front and rear counter areas tidy and organized.
  • Regularly clean computer terminals and printers.
  • Participate in available training programs to enhance skills.
  • Stay updated on new products and updates in the industry.
  • Collaborate with the parts manager to maintain a lost sales tracking system.
  • Uphold a professional appearance at all times.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To succeed in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

Education and Experience

  • No prior experience or training required.
  • Less than high school education or up to one month of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts and commissions, and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple instructions and deal with standardized situations.
  • Ability to understand and execute detailed instructions and solve problems involving concrete variables.
