With a legacy of 140 years in the human services sector, we focus on enhancing the well-being of children by empowering families and fortifying communities through collaborative, data-informed, and preventative strategies.
The Family Support Specialist plays a vital role in our prevention and family support initiatives, delivering comprehensive, long-term home-visiting services through a strengths-based, family-centered approach to high-risk expectant parents and families with young children.
In this role, you will evaluate the strengths and needs of families, collaborate with parents to set developmental goals for their children, and assist families in broadening their support networks.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct regular home visits with expectant parents and families with children aged birth to 5 years to perform assessments, establish goals, and provide tailored services that align with the unique strengths and needs of each family.
Observe parent-child interactions, focusing on effective communication and empathetic responses, while engaging parents in reflective discussions about their evolving relationships with their children.
Support parents in building community connections that align with their service goals, including referrals and linkages to early intervention, mental health, healthcare, and other supportive services.
Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key community partners.
Occasionally assist in facilitating parent support groups.
Candidate Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Child Development, or a related field.
Minimum of one year of experience working with families with children under the age of 5 (required).
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. (Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are highly desirable.)
Understanding of child development and parent-child dynamics, with the capacity to engage with families using a strengths-based, family-centered service model, even in challenging family situations.
Ability to participate in both in-person and virtual family visits and meetings, along with possessing a valid driver's license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle.
Job Details:
Compensation:
Starting at $19/hr; compensation is commensurate with experience.
Benefits:
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; over 3 weeks of paid time off in the first year, including a designated week off during the holiday season (PTO increases with tenure); 11 paid holidays, supplemental insurance options, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions.
Location:
Hybrid work model (remote/in-office); providing in-person, home- and community-based services, with opportunities for remote work between meetings and events.
Schedule:
Full-time, hourly; standard business hours with some flexibility required for evening family visits and special projects.
Student Loan Forgiveness:
Children's Home & Aid is an approved agency for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
At Children's Home & Aid, we believe that by cultivating diverse and inclusive teams of passionate advocates for youth and families, we can effectively support Illinois families, placing them at the heart of every decision and enhancing the communities in which we live and work.
We invite you to join a team that encourages, inspires, and challenges one another, and to advance your career in an organization that values emerging leaders and offers development and learning opportunities tailored to your individual aspirations.
