Job Title: Child Welfare Specialist

Job Summary:

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking a highly motivated and organized Child Welfare Specialist to join our team. As a Child Welfare Specialist, you will be responsible for providing professional child welfare casework services to children and families, determining the need and coordinating the placement of children in substitute care facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with clients and professionals to obtain information for the continued diagnosis of problems and development of treatment plans.
  • Transport clients when taking protective custody, when placing them in substitute care, and when changing placement location.
  • Translate and interpret, both orally and in writing, for Spanish speaking clients regarding services available and the proper completion of forms.
  • Prepare and maintain case documentation for planning, implementing, and evaluating services.
  • Participate in case staffings to facilitate case transfer and participates in multi-disciplinary diagnostic and technical staff conferences to assess needed services.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work or a related human service field.
  • One year of directly related professional casework/case management experience.
  • Ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.
  • Valid driver's license, daily access to an automobile, and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
