Certified Medication Aide Job Description

Cedarhurst Senior Living is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Medication Aide to join our team at our Cedarhurst of La Vista community.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and caring individual to provide direct resident care services, including medication distribution, and to promote the physical, personal, and emotional well-being of our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct resident care services, including medicine distribution, and follow individualized plans of care for all residents.
  • Perform resident evaluations as required by state standards and facility policy, under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
  • Observe residents for changes in condition and report any changes immediately to the supervisor and/or Executive Director.
  • Provide timely interventions to address changes in condition and share information with care staff and family as instructed.
  • Assist in completing and maintaining current individualized care plans for each resident.
  • Provide interim documentation as required to resident files and attend all scheduled interdisciplinary resident care meetings.
  • Check and record vital signs, weights, and blood sugars as assigned.
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, showering, oral care, toileting, dressing, and transfers, as needed.
  • Assist residents with ambulation and respond to urgent calls as needed, using proper body mechanics.
  • Participate in the oversight and management of the medication delivery system, including timely order entry, receipt, and tracking, as well as daily MAR documentation, narcotic count, and checking in medications in a timely manner to ensure resident compliance with medication regimens.
  • Notify the pharmacy and supervisor of issues and seek to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Provide glucose monitoring and administration of insulin, as applicable for CMTs and insulin-certified CMAs/L1MA only.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and current state certification for the corresponding role.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
  • At least one year of related work experience, preferably in senior care, and a general knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding Assisted Living care, as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times and effectively perform conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.
  • Ability to meet all physical demands of the job, including seeing, speaking, touching, walking, standing, bending, reaching overhead, crouching/kneeling or crawling, and regularly lifting/moving up to 50lbs independently and up to 200lbs with assistance.
  • Self-motivated to accomplish identified goals with a strong sense of accountability for results.
  • Knowledgeable in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
