Job Summary

We're seeking a highly skilled Substation Project Engineer to join our team in Rapid City, South Dakota. As a key member of our Power Delivery team, you'll be responsible for designing and developing physical substations, protection, and control systems for high-voltage electric utility projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop physical substation layouts, including yard layouts, plans, sections, and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material.
  • Develop protection and control designs, including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
  • Prepare calculations for studies and reports, including grounding, lightning protection, AC/DC load studies, and other related tasks.
  • Coordinate design activities with other departments, including Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, and others.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EITs and/or Designers.
  • Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure that schedules and budgets are met.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis or related degree.
  • 5 years of related experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
  • PE (Professional Engineer) certification.
  • Strong computer skills, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED.
  • Local candidates preferred.
