Position Overview

The Supply Chain & Logistics division is in search of a Supply Chain Logistics Specialist. This role is essential for ensuring precise and prompt scheduling, communication, and documentation for product deliveries to clients by organizing transportation loads and timelines. The individual will oversee the processing of finished products and scrap shipments, generate packing documentation, label materials, manage staging areas, receive goods, and coordinate all shipping activities to and from the facility. Availability around the clock via digital communication is a requirement for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee freight expenses and scrap inventory levels, aiming for improvement over previous year’s metrics. Lead interactions with freight carriers and plant staff to achieve these objectives, prioritizing safety while seeking cost-effective carriers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with freight carriers and strategic partners, ensuring the most economical carrier is utilized for plant routes.
  • Collaborate closely with plant scheduling to align transportation resources within designated loading times to reduce truck detention costs.
  • Stay informed about transportation market trends to identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
  • Coordinate with freight carriers and warehouse teams; manage multiple shipping locations nationwide; arrange delivery and return logistics with customers and account managers; prepare shipping documents for transporters; negotiate freight charges.
  • Initiate and manage carrier load tenders effectively.
  • Oversee the labeling and packing of plant materials; supervise the loading of goods onto trailers, railcars, or trucks.
  • Direct warehouse operations on behalf of the company, providing clear instructions for material delivery to clients.
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate the storage and distribution of plant materials.
  • Ensure adherence to DOT hazardous materials regulations, provide necessary training for plant personnel, and guarantee the availability of appropriate placards, labels, and shipping documentation.
  • Track daily shipping performance metrics.
  • Communicate with carriers regarding delayed shipments.
  • Commit finished goods to scheduled loads in the system and prepare documentation for timely dispatch.
  • Assist in scrap load processing and maintain the scrap inventory log.
  • Conduct inventory checks for empty containers.
  • Reissue packing tickets as necessary.
  • Provide Proof of Delivery upon customer request.
  • Guide and support operational staff to ensure timely shipment preparation.
  • Uphold Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies through personal compliance and oversight in the shipping area.
  • Engage in special projects and additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or higher.
  • Experience in an office or customer service setting; background in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to engage with all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to adapt to internal and proprietary software systems.
  • Capability to work effectively with diverse personalities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics.
  • 3-5 years of experience in shipping or as a Logistics Coordinator.
  • Familiarity with JDA and SAP systems.
