Role Summary


As Graduate English Instructional Support, you will take on the responsibility of teaching one or two sections of ENG 1113: English Composition or ENG 1213: English Composition and Research during the academic year.

Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in English at the University of Central Oklahoma and possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Key Responsibilities


Teaching Assistants will support faculty in various capacities, including:

  • Covering classes or supervising examinations
  • Delivering lectures in areas of expertise
  • Providing tutoring in relevant subjects
  • Assisting faculty with course preparation (e.g., library research, internet searches, and presentation materials)
  • Maintaining records and overseeing grading of assignments
  • Facilitating group study sessions as required
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Enrollment Criteria

Fall/Spring Semesters:
All student employees must maintain at least half-time enrollment to qualify for any student position. For graduate students, half-time enrollment is defined as 5 credit hours, while undergraduates must enroll in 6 credit hours. International students are required to maintain full-time enrollment, which is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester:

Students in regular positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours to work during the summer. Students not taking summer classes must be registered for fall classes to be eligible for summer employment, with both the student and department responsible for FICA taxes.

For Federal Work Study Program positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) during the summer.


Enrollment Exception:

If the required credit hours for graduation are less than the minimum for student employment, a letter from the Academic Advisor confirming the necessary hours and anticipated graduation date must be submitted to Human Resources.


Qualifications


Enrollment in an English graduate program at the University of Central Oklahoma, along with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, is mandatory for this role.


Skills and Competencies

Applicants should demonstrate strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills in English, as well as robust critical thinking abilities.

Selected candidates will be expected to manage confidential information ethically and professionally, balance their academic responsibilities with teaching duties, and effectively organize teaching materials and schedules.
