Position: Superintendent – Public Sector Projects

Reports to: General Superintendent

Role Summary

The Superintendent is tasked with overseeing the management of one or more construction projects within a designated area. This role involves providing leadership on-site to various teams by effectively managing foremen and crew leaders. Superintendents play a crucial role in coordinating the operations of multiple teams to achieve or surpass production targets while collaborating closely with project managers and general superintendents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
  • Guide all team members to understand safety measures and conduct thorough reviews of operational manuals before using any equipment.
  • Oversee the completion of daily job reports by all assigned teams, tracking production and hours worked using designated software.
  • Ensure the completion of safety documentation, including daily briefings and pre-work assessments.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement future tasks for multiple teams to guarantee project success.
  • Mentor and instruct foremen and crew members on various construction tasks on a daily basis.
  • Ensure that team members operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Verify that teams can install various types of pipes and structures effectively.
  • Ensure that teams can construct and finish concrete structures to high standards.
  • Manage and direct the work of multiple crew members simultaneously.
  • Utilize project management software proficiently on a daily basis.
  • Instruct team members on the use of advanced technology and systems for earthwork operations.
  • Coordinate the ordering of materials as necessary.
  • Maintain the company vehicle and ensure it is stocked with essential supplies.
  • Travel to various job sites as required.
  • Conduct interviews and provide recommendations for hiring based on sound judgment.
  • Offer insights for promotions or terminations of crew members based on performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience interpreting construction plans and specifications.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Clean driving record.
  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in earthwork, excavation, and utility installation.
  • Extensive knowledge of advanced technology used in construction.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and maintenance standards in construction.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in ongoing safety training.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods as project demands dictate.

Work Environment

  • Work will primarily occur on active construction sites, with exposure to various environmental conditions.
  • Physical demands include repetitive motions and the ability to lift heavy materials.

Physical Requirements

  • Must wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Ability to hear and see adequately to perform job duties effectively.
  • Physical capability to navigate uneven terrain and perform manual tasks.
  • Must complete a fitness for duty examination.

Selection Process

Candidates will be considered for the Superintendent role based on their performance as a foreman. The need for Superintendent positions will be evaluated based on projected project requirements.
