Position Overview:

The Construction Safety Specialist is tasked with the comprehensive management of Safety, Health, and Risk Management for construction projects. This role involves the effective administration of various safety initiatives, crafting and executing safety protocols, and partnering with project management to lead the Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework. The specialist will devise innovative and practical solutions to complex safety challenges. This position may require travel up to 20%.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the General Contractor (GC) and/or project owners regarding site conditions and Non-Compliance Notices (NCN).
  • Engage in discussions with clients, project teams, and contractors/sub-contractors to present project-specific safety mitigation strategies, training programs, and technical documentation.
  • Support the creation and execution of Site-Specific Accident Prevention Programs (APP) and training plans to align with project safety specifications and requirements.
  • Assist in the management of site safety budgets, necessary work permits, and ensure adherence to project contracts, plans, and specifications.
  • Lead the ORM team in evaluating, interpreting, and formulating a project safety plan based on project specifications, design documents, regulations, and existing safety systems. Conduct and assist with incident reporting and investigations.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of safety and health standards, regulations, and safe work practices, including OSHA and DOT compliance, insurance audits, and activity hazard analysis.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • At least 4 years of experience with an Associate's Degree.
  • Experience is preferred with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proven experience in conducting safety and health training, with expertise in regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge and experience in Safety Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with ANSI-Z10, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 31000 standards.
  • Ability to understand and foster a positive safety culture.
  • Certification as a trainer in OSHA 500/502 or a degree in Occupational Safety from an ABET accredited program is preferred.
  • Willingness to pursue certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
  • Prior experience in electrical, construction, industrial, or federal and commercial safety and health roles.
