About Pendulum

Pendulum is leading a global movement to improve physical and mental health by first understanding, then restoring and enhancing the human microbiome. Our research has revealed that the microbiome plays a critical role in various aspects of our well-being, from metabolism and diabetes to longevity, weight loss, and cancer prevention.

We have developed proprietary probiotic pipelines and a unique discovery platform to identify key bacterial strains and prebiotics. Our manufacturing technology allows us to produce bacteria at scale, creating a new category of therapeutic offerings in the consumer probiotics market.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist with expertise in Marketing to drive business decisions using data-driven insights. This role requires advanced analytics and machine learning skills within a consumer business context.

You will develop predictive models, optimize marketing strategies, and collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Data teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives, frame problems, and develop models to solve them.
  • Lead data science initiatives to enhance acquisition algorithms, channel optimization, and retention solutions.
  • Build and scale experimentation frameworks, driving insights through A/B testing for acquisition, retention, and engagement strategies.
  • Develop customer acquisition and retention KPIs, leveraging cohort data to track LTV, CAC, churn, and performance across sales channels.
  • Utilize data to guide strategic marketing decisions, including budget allocation, targeting strategies, and ad personalization.
  • Drive actionable insights by analyzing patterns and trends across commercial and customer data, delivering clear and impactful presentations to stakeholders.
  • Prioritize key data science initiatives that deliver high impact, focusing on growth, personalization, and maximizing customer lifetime value.
  • Lead efforts to integrate foundational technologies that support real-time data analysis and continuous experimentation.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • MSc/PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or advanced analytics, in consumer industries.
  • Expertise in Python, SQL, Pandas, SparkSQL; familiarity with data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • Solid background in statistical analysis, including hypothesis testing and causal inference.
  • Experience with marketing analytics, including segmentation, LTV, CAC, retention, and familiarity with web analytics tools like Google Analytics or Heap.
  • Strong expertise in machine learning (predictive modeling, clustering, regression) and experience in deploying models to production.
  • Experience in building and maintaining data pipelines, ETL processes, and feature engineering.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and effectively communicate data insights to stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen in a consumer business with a subscription model and proven success in providing actionable data insights that enabled business growth.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where adaptability is imperative.

Estimated Salary Range: $170,000-$225,000 per annum.
