Laboratory Technician

Position Title: Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Laboratory Manager

Job Overview:

The Laboratory Technician is tasked with executing a variety of laboratory tasks as dictated by the study protocol. This role involves supporting the Laboratory Manager, Principal Investigator, Clinical Research Coordinators, and other healthcare professionals in the preparation and management of specimens, analyzing results, and ensuring the upkeep of laboratory equipment. The Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining accuracy, quality assurance, and compliance with safety standards, thereby contributing to scientific research and the development of innovative medical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts laboratory procedures (such as preparation for testing, safety evaluations, and processing biological specimens) in accordance with study protocols under the guidance of Clinical Research Coordinators and Principal Investigators.
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of the study protocol and the procedural flowchart, formulating strategies to implement study processes in alignment with established protocols.
  • Prepares sample containers and labels for biological specimen collection, processes, and organizes specimens for transportation.
  • Monitors sample collection and storage logs.
  • Oversees the temperature monitoring of freezers and refrigerators, responding to alerts to safeguard samples.
  • Updates and maintains inventory records for freezer contents.
  • Reviews and assesses laboratory study data to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists the Lab Manager with various tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field, or completion of a Lab Technician certification program from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in clinical research or a related medical field.
  • Proficient in laboratory techniques and the operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
