Role Objectives:
Accountable for the upkeep and repair of machinery and equipment linked to the company's offshore and inshore vessels, line handling boats, and dock facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee maintenance and repair of diesel inboard engines.
Manage maintenance and repair of onboard generators.
Conduct maintenance and repair of outboard engines.
Execute routine maintenance and safety inspections on vessels.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Assist service providers with onboard maintenance and repairs.
Participate in after-hours and emergency callouts.
Refuel vessels as needed.
Maintain the workshop and surrounding areas in an orderly fashion, including the building and dock.
Operate a forklift as required.
Operate a crane when necessary.
Procure supplies under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager.
Collect parts and supplies from vendors as needed.
Support hurricane preparedness procedures when necessary.
Assist management in enhancing the Preventive Maintenance Program.
Utilize company vehicles to transport boats on trailers.
Launch and retrieve boats from ramps.
Basic electrical skills are advantageous.
Basic welding skills are beneficial.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements:
Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedural documents. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to perform calculations involving percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Capability to collaborate effectively, communicate professionally, and appreciate diverse perspectives.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Must be able to operate boats (state-issued boat operator permit).
5 years of relevant work experience or a 2-year technical degree.
Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, and Yamaha engines is preferred.
Experience with jet propulsion systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the maintenance technician is frequently required to use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The technician must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Tasks are performed day or night and in various weather conditions. Work may involve deep water and electrical systems.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Operate motor vehicles.
Wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, respirators, safety glasses, goggles, and full-body coveralls.
Ability to perform under stress and in emergency situations.
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions (cold or heat).
Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, reason logically, and make sound decisions.
Ability to comprehend, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions and comply with company policies and standards.
Ability to work at heights (scaffolding or ladders).
Ability to work in noisy environments.
Working Conditions:
Work in close proximity to others, usually within a few feet.
Work outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over or near water.
Involves working on or near moving and vibrating equipment.
Frequently exposed to high humidity, elevated noise levels, and intense light.
Potential exposure to open flames, sparks, and airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
Work surfaces are stable, but heights may be elevated.
Workers are subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside, with limited protection from weather, and may encounter physical hazards such as moving parts, vehicles, electricity, heights, and large bodies of deep water.
