Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic Assistant to join our team at TransForce. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for assisting our shop mechanics in performing vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Assist in checking district vehicle fluid levels, fueling school buses and other district vehicles, washing school buses and other district vehicles, and performing pre-trip servicing and post-trip inspections.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Assist shop mechanics in repairing and rebuilding gasoline or diesel engines, repairing/ replacing school bus seat support systems, foams, and seat covers, and performing minor body repairs.
  • Documentation: Complete required written documentation related to job performance, including repair orders, vehicle condition reports, and other relevant documents.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and tire repairs as needed.
  • Facility Maintenance: Participate in assigned and ongoing shop and facility clean-up and preservation activities.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Prior mechanical experience preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to diagnose, repair, and rebuild gasoline or diesel engines, ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts, ability to bend, stoop, stand, kneel, and squat, and ability to operate a school bus.
  • Physical Demands: Requires standing for 5-7 hours, walking for 1-4 hours, forward bending or stooping for 1-3 hours, and lifting and carrying parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Environmental Factors: Requires working in environments where exposure to vibration, noise, artificial light, ambient temperatures, dampness, and humidity may occur.
  • Physical Hazards: Requires working with power tools, lifting heavy equipment, and exposure to toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, diesel fuel, and chemical solvents.
