The Turbomachinery Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the technical integrity of rotating machinery design, operation, and maintenance within the assigned production sector of Olefins.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary Engineering Technical Assurance contact for rotating equipment, ensuring adherence to Shell DEPs, ASME, API, and other relevant standards.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies that enhance the rotating equipment sector and implement these innovations at the facility.
- Lead structured analysis initiatives, including root cause analysis (RCA) and risk assessments, to address significant rotating equipment challenges.
- Utilize Proactive Technical Monitoring (PTM) strategies to identify and resolve potential issues, employing existing predictive maintenance platforms.
- Champion the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) process, participating in RCM studies and reviews to strengthen the program.
- Develop comprehensive overhaul plans for rotating machinery, ensuring optimal execution and safety.
- Conduct technical evaluations of contractor repair teams and oversee the procurement of necessary spare parts.
- Inspect special tooling and manage the layout of workspaces to ensure safe and efficient operations during overhauls.
- Monitor the progress of overhauls and validate the outcomes of critical checkpoints.
- Lead teams during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup phases.
- Manage the scope of capital spare reconditioning following overhauls.
- Serve as the contract holder for third-party agreements, ensuring compliance with scope and performance standards.
- Facilitate technical training for maintenance technicians and operations personnel, preparing materials as needed.
- Continuously enhance expertise through training aligned with the Global Rotating Equipment Job Competence Matrix.
- Provide insights for optimizing rotating equipment operational limits and mitigate risks associated with design exceedances.
- Identify and advocate for capital improvement opportunities within the rotating equipment domain.
- Support project development, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and site practices.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship in relation to rotating equipment systems.
- Adhere to Shell's Management of Change (MOC) processes, leading necessary changes in equipment operations.
- Act as the technical authority for project changes and work evaluations.
- Drive improvements in Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) metrics, focusing on critical rotating equipment.
- Develop maintenance and overhaul strategies for complex rotating equipment, ensuring thorough documentation and quality assurance.
- Report to the Rotating Equipment Team Lead within the Engineering Department.
- This position is designated for individual contributors, requiring certification as a subject matter expert within a specified timeframe.
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in rotating equipment engineering within oil or petrochemical sectors is essential.
- Proficiency in applying various rotating equipment standards and performance monitoring techniques is necessary.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing rotating machinery during significant maintenance activities is expected.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
- Expertise in various types of rotating equipment, including compressors, turbines, pumps, and gearboxes, is crucial.
