Key Responsibilities- Timely and compliant billing and coding of medical services
- Preparation and submission of claims via electronic billing system
- Ensuring medical documentation required or requested by insurance companies is provided
- Precertification of medical visits and follow-up on their status
- Review and comparison of coding with progress notes for accuracy
- Follow-up with insurance companies on unpaid claims
- Processing of rejection of EOB's, electronic EDI reports, and electronic remits
- Collaboration with nurse practitioners and other medical personnel to ensure accurate diagnosis and procedures are reported and documented
- Staying up-to-date on billing and benefits changes for insurance carriers
- Posting of insurance adjustments and monitoring of claims for missing information, authorization, or precertification
- Maintenance of collection of outstanding patient accounts and confidentiality of all information
- Response to billing questions or concerns from patients and other nursing home personnel
- Maintenance and update of patient account information and preparation of monthly reports of claim activity
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of revenue cycle
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare HMO, Medicaid HMO, and commercial plans
- Knowledge of billing and coding practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care
- Ability to make independent decisions and deal tactfully with team members, administration, insurance companies, and other staff
- Willingness to work harmoniously with team members in all positions and seek out new methods and keep current on billing and coding updates
