Seasonal Maintenance Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled Seasonal Maintenance Worker to join our team in the Water Distribution division of the City of Port Townsend Public Works Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair work to the water distribution systems, with a focus on water meter replacement, exploratory field investigation, and identification of pipe material used in water service connections.
Key Responsibilities- Replaces water meters throughout the City's water distribution system
- Performs exploratory field investigations using hand tools to dig and expose plumbing near water meter connections and identify pipe and fitting material used
- Accurately records field investigation findings on both electronic and handwritten formats
- Participates as a member of the Public Works team to maintain the City's water distribution system, including pumps, pipes, hydrants, meters, reservoirs, and valves
- Assists with maintenance and repairs at the Water Treatment Facility
- Assists with maintenance and repairs of the Olympic Gravity Water System
- Performs grounds maintenance at Water Department facilities
- Provides support of other divisions and departments during emergencies
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job
- Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire
- Must be able to perform physical work outdoors under all weather conditions
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers
- Must pass criminal background check
- Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
- Water Distribution Manager 1 certification
- Current flaggers card
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- 2+ years' experience working in waterworks, plumbing, construction, or related field
This is a seasonal position with a possibility of a six-month extension. The City of Port Townsend is an equal employment opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
