Position Title: Program Director

Performance Profile: Full-time (Salaried, Non-Exempt—eligible for overtime), 40 hours per week, on-site

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Executive Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the program site, ensuring exceptional learning experiences for children, effective staff management, and positive relationships within the school community while aligning with the organization's mission, vision, and values as part of the Leadership Team.

Child Experience Excellence

  • Guarantee that LASER values and best practices in curriculum and equity are implemented throughout the site.
  • Prioritize child safety in all program aspects.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the site's program and collaboratively implement necessary changes.
  • Support curriculum planning and development initiatives.
  • Lead communication and planning efforts to support children and families in the program.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with child files.
  • Maintain compliance with licensing and relevant governing regulations at the site.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise, mentor, and support Site Supervisors.
  • Oversee the supervision of Assistant Teachers and Lead Teachers in collaboration with Site Supervisors.
  • Manage HR issue escalations with Site Supervisors and the Leadership Team as necessary.
  • Conduct 90-day and annual performance evaluations for Assistant Teachers and Lead Teachers in conjunction with Site Supervisors.
  • Deliver performance evaluations to Site Supervisors.
  • Recruit Assistant Teachers, Lead Teachers, and Supervisors as needed and lead onboarding processes.
  • Create and manage staff schedules, absences, and teaching teams.
  • Maintain documentation and compliant staff files.
  • Plan ongoing professional development for staff in collaboration with the Leadership Team.
  • Exemplify professionalism, including direct communication, emotional intelligence, and maintaining confidentiality and boundaries.

Community Engagement

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with the school in collaboration with the Strategic Director.
  • Direct the site's relationships with families in the program and at the school.
  • Oversee outreach, enrollment, and onboarding of families in conjunction with the Bookkeeper and Program Administrator.

Organizational Integrity

  • Ensure the site's alignment with LASER's vision and values.
  • Collaborate closely with the Leadership Team to ensure consistency and alignment of experiences for staff, children, and families across sites.
  • Lead with a style that promotes a positive culture at the site and within the organization.
  • Focus on integrating equity, anti-racist, and anti-bias best practices throughout the site.
  • Develop an understanding of the site budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and Bookkeeper.
  • Work closely with the Leadership Team on problem-solving, improvements, and long-term strategic planning for the site and the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in teaching children and one year in administration.
  • Demonstrated experience and passion for child development, advocacy, and educational practices.
  • Reflective thinker who approaches challenges with inquiry, empathy, and curiosity.
  • Familiarity with licensing requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and group skills, collaborative nature, and excellent communication abilities.
  • Motivated to take initiative and enhance systems.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Able to adapt quickly and manage multiple issues with clarity and thoroughness.
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism at all times, including in communication and boundary-setting.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, both supervisors and supervisees.
