We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Librarian to join our team at the Brooklyn Public Library. As a key member of our Outreach Services Department, you will be responsible for overseeing and developing library services for incarcerated individuals in NYC Department of Correction facilities and state & federal prisons.
Key Responsibilities- Program Development: Develop and implement innovative library programs and services for incarcerated individuals, including mobile and standing lending libraries, Daddy/Mommy & Me programs, and other educational initiatives.
- Staff Supervision: Supervise and support full-time, part-time, and volunteer staff providing library services to incarcerated patrons.
- Collection Development: Develop and maintain high-quality collections for mobile and standing libraries in correctional facilities.
- Community Outreach: Collaborate with other city library systems and community organizations to identify new opportunities for community outreach and develop tailored programs and services for organizations working with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.
- Representation: Represent the Brooklyn Public Library at local and national events and conferences.
- Education: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science required; Public Librarians Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York, required.
- Experience: Successfully demonstrated public library experience working in roles displaying supervision, administrative, outreach, and leadership skills appropriate to the position.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to exercise sound judgment, identify and assess problems, and decisively implement appropriate solutions or recommendations.
- Physical Demands: Ability to bend, reach, sit, and stand as needed.
- Competitive Salary: Starting salary of $68,176 plus an automatic increase of $2,830.
- Benefits: This position is in the bargaining unit.
