Veterinary Emergency Care Assistant

Position: Part-time Veterinary Assistant
Schedule: Weekend Shifts (Saturday and Sunday: 10 AM - 10 PM or 12 PM - 12 AM)
As a Veterinary Emergency Care Assistant, you will be integral in delivering exceptional support and care to animals facing urgent health challenges. Your ability to communicate effectively, maintain meticulous attention to detail, and perform well under pressure will be crucial in assisting our veterinary team during critical situations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the emergency veterinary team by aiding in patient intake, evaluations, and treatments.
- Safely handle and restrain animals, ensuring their comfort and security throughout their visit.
- Prepare examination and treatment areas, keeping them organized and well-stocked for optimal patient care.
- Administer medications and treatments under the guidance of licensed veterinary professionals.
- Monitor vital signs and patient conditions, promptly reporting any changes to the veterinary staff.
- Conduct basic laboratory tests, including blood draws and urine collection, as directed by veterinarians.
- Assist in emergency surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment and providing necessary support.
- Offer comfort and support to distressed pet owners, effectively communicating their pets' conditions and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in line with hospital protocols.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the hospital and equipment to promote a safe environment.
- Collaborate with veterinary staff to facilitate seamless patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Veterinary Assistant is advantageous.
- Experience in a veterinary assistant role, particularly in emergency or critical care, is preferred.
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and empathy for both animals and their owners.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with clients and team members.
- Ability to remain composed and make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
- Proficiency in handling animals of various sizes and temperaments.
- Familiarity with essential veterinary equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate record-keeping.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, as emergency care is available 24/7.
- Physical capability to lift and manage animals of different sizes and perform repetitive tasks.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
