Nursing Unit Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced RN Lead to join our team at Christus Health. As a key member of our nursing leadership team, you will be responsible for coordinating and directing the day-to-day activities of nursing personnel in patient care units.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Coordination: Provide direction and guidance to clinical staff, ensuring the smooth operation of patient care units and the delivery of high-quality patient care.
- Staff Development and Management: Coach and counsel individual team members, monitor and provide feedback on performance, and address training needs to ensure the development of a skilled and competent nursing team.
- Operational Management: Document daily staffing, operational, and administrative records, ensuring compliance with governmental policies and procedures.
- Patient Care and Safety: Provide direction and support to nursing staff in promoting patient safety and dignity, and assist with communication with patients and families.
- Resource Allocation and Conflict Resolution: Allocate team resources responsibly, delegate appropriate levels of responsibility and authority, and provide oversight and guidance to ensure effective conflict resolution and team collaboration.
- Standard I: Utilization of the Nursing Process: Use critical thinking skills to assess patient needs, communicate findings to healthcare team members, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient response to care.
- Standard II: Patient Throughput and Patient Flow Process: Anticipate and plan for admission, discharge, and transfer needs, utilize effective communication systems, and facilitate the discharge process.
- Standard III: Unit Operations: Plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care and functions in patient care units, demonstrate good stewardship of equipment and supplies, and assess departmental staffing needs.
- Standard IV: Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations: Incorporate patient safety practices, demonstrate accountability for nursing research and quality improvement activities, provide evidence-based nursing care, and communicate patient information effectively.
- Standard V: Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert for patient care, provide continuing feedback and recognition, and support proper allocation of team resources.
- Clinical Policies and Standards: Follow established standards and procedures, analyze policy documentation, and ensure organizational compliance.
- Health Information Documentation: Share experiences with maintaining patient documentation, walk through steps for receiving and updating patient records, and discuss health information documentation best practices.
- Medical Equipment: Describe experience with medical equipment, use diagnostic tools to resolve common equipment problems, and ensure equipment is in proper working order.
- Medical Order Processing: Share experiences with processing medical orders, describe functions and features of order entry systems, and discuss common errors and procedures for correcting.
- Patient Chart Reading and Interpretation: Describe experiences in reading and interpreting patient charts, review charts for completion and accuracy, and recognize unexpected readings.
- Patient Safety: Share experiences with ensuring patient safety, explain key features of safety guidelines and procedures, and recognize and address physiological and psychological signs of problems.
- Education/Skills: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- Experience: 2 years of clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting.
- Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS required, RN License in state of employment or compact.
