Position Overview:
As an AI Systems Evaluator, you will be responsible for assessing the performance, capabilities, and reliability of AI models. Your work will ensure compliance with established standards and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough evaluations of AI systems, implementing structured and scientifically valid assessment methods.
- Analyze existing safeguards within models to determine their effectiveness and reliability.
- Execute red-team operations on AI systems utilizing real-world adversarial strategies to uncover vulnerabilities and potential misuse.
- Innovate and enhance red-teaming and safety evaluation tools, products, and workflows to increase efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise creative solutions to challenges in AI safety.
- Communicate intricate AI concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to the formulation of technical guidelines and best practices for AI safety.

Qualifications:
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Males born after must be registered for Selective Service.
- Completion of Confidential Financial Disclosure, Form OGE-450 is mandatory.
- Designated and/or random drug testing is required.

Basic Requirements:
- IT-related experience is essential, which can be demonstrated through paid or unpaid work, or through intensive training such as IT certification.
- Candidates must exhibit proficiency in the following competencies:
1. Attention to Detail: Demonstrates thoroughness and conscientiousness in work.
2. Customer Service: Engages with clients to assess needs and provide quality service.
3. Oral Communication: Effectively conveys information to diverse audiences.
4. Problem Solving: Identifies issues and evaluates information to make sound recommendations.

Specialized Experience:
- For ZP-2210-IV: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, demonstrating technical understanding of AI generative models and ML algorithms, and experience in evaluating safety and security vulnerabilities.
- For ZP-2210-V: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, showcasing advanced understanding of AI models, leading cross-functional teams, and planning technical evaluations.

Additional Information:
- This position is part of NIST's Alternative Personnel Management System (APMS), which offers a pay-for-performance structure and various HR flexibilities.
- A trial period may be required, and this appointment can be extended up to four years without further competition.
- The position requires passing a drug test and filing an OGE-450 Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of onboarding and annually thereafter.
