Job Scope:


The role involves performing Moderate and High Complexity Laboratory Testing. You will be responsible for conducting accurate specimen analysis, maintaining laboratory instruments, and ensuring quality control procedures are followed.

You will also implement quality assurance and safety protocols, assist with specimen collection, and facilitate patient flow as necessary. Training new staff in laboratory procedures will be part of your responsibilities. You may serve as the primary operator for specific laboratory instruments and act as a resource for laboratory science information. In the absence of a supervisor, you may oversee daily laboratory operations. Compliance with the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in phlebotomy and collect specimens from patients as required.
Ensure pre-authorization and complete necessary consent forms prior to conducting limited coverage tests.
  • Support special procedures as needed.

Follow established laboratory protocols for specimen handling, processing, analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient result records.

  • Conduct specimen analysis for Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology.
  • Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment, performing routine maintenance as required.

Adhere to quality control policies, documenting all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.

  • Participate in proficiency testing and perform sample analysis annually.
  • Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials.
  • Examine urinary sediment microscopically.
  • Document results accurately in the appropriate systems.

Process specimens for external testing and manage incoming orders for lab testing.

  • Ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens.
  • Train new employees in laboratory protocols.
  • Contribute to the development of new instruments and procedures.
  • Oversee daily laboratory activities in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Comply with quality assurance standards and OSHA regulations.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring confidentiality of all patient and staff information.

  • Perform CLIA classified Moderate and High complexity testing with minimal supervision.


Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related healthcare field is required. Current state licensure, if applicable, along with AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification is preferred. A minimum of five years of relevant experience is necessary.



Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position require a full range of motion, including manual dexterity and coordination for operating complex laboratory equipment. The role necessitates prolonged periods of sitting or standing, with the ability to lift items weighing up to 40 lbs. Vision, color perception, and hearing must be within normal ranges.



Work Environment:

This position is performed in a laboratory setting, requiring regular interaction with management, staff, and external clients. Frequent travel may be necessary.
