We are excited to present a unique opportunity for the Oncology Research RN role, which encompasses a range of professional nursing responsibilities including assisting physicians, collecting samples, gathering information, following up with patients, collecting data, administering medications, collaborating with healthcare teams, educating patients, responding to emergencies, preparing patients, and assisting with sedation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support physicians during examinations as required, ensuring all pertinent information is readily available.
- Collect patient samples, including blood and urine, and prepare them for analysis or transport. Record vital signs such as heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, and temperature.
- Coordinate patient appointments and provide answers to routine inquiries from patients, families, or caregivers. Offer educational resources to enhance understanding.
- Compile and maintain laboratory reports, data, and medical records.
- Administer medications under the guidance of physicians or medical staff, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Actively respond to emergency situations, including anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, hypotension, hemorrhage, and respiratory distress.
- Oversee and assess the work of support staff, including Clinic Clerks, Medical Assistants, and fellow Nurses, taking on a leadership role when necessary.
- Assist with the conscious sedation process for patients.
- Perform additional duties as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Job Location
Required Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Certifications or Licenses:
- Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Oklahoma
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Essential Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of diagnostic and treatment techniques related to illness or injury, including treatment alternatives, drug properties, and preventive healthcare measures.
- Thorough understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Strong listening skills with the ability to comprehend and engage effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to interact with staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and patients in a professional and courteous manner, even in high-pressure situations.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Basic proficiency in mathematics and computer skills.
- Competence in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and healthcare providers.
Working Conditions:
- Physical: Prolonged periods of standing, with regular bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
- Environmental: Frequent exposure to odors and potential contact with human blood, bodily fluids, and infectious materials.
