Job Summary

The Surgical Scheduling Coordinator Clinic is responsible for scheduling patient surgical procedures at various healthcare facilities in accordance with established protocols. This includes obtaining accurate and detailed surgical orders from healthcare providers, completing necessary paperwork, coordinating schedules with healthcare teams, and informing patients of surgery dates and times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advises patients on pre- and post-operative instructions, including dietary restrictions and medication intake.
  • Schedules and obtains pre-op evaluations and surgical clearance documentation from healthcare providers.
  • Enters surgery appointments into the patient's appointment desktop, ensures accurate insurance information, and attaches authorization documents.
  • Documents phone calls to patients, scans scheduling documentation, and schedules appointments with attached authorizations.
  • Performs precertification and verification of surgical benefits with insurance companies.
  • Maintains and monitors surgical block time to optimize utilization, advises surgeons of unused time, and releases unused time to prevent loss of departmental surgical block time.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in healthcare revenue cycle management.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, with professional telephone etiquette.
  • Able to operate basic office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, and telephones.
  • Able to multitask and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent data entry, numeric, typing, and computer navigation skills.
  • Able to demonstrate precision and flexibility.
