POSITION SUMMARY: The Healthcare Support Specialist is tasked with warmly welcoming patients both via telephone and in-person at the clinic. This role involves the registration and interviewing of patients to gather precise demographic and financial details while coordinating appointment schedules. Additional duties may encompass returning patient messages, organizing follow-up tests, managing referrals, and securing prior authorizations. The specialist assists patients, nursing staff, and healthcare providers in delivering care within the clinic environment. Responsibilities include measuring vital signs and collecting the patient's chief complaint history for their visit. The role also entails conducting various Point of Care Testing and ensuring quality control documentation for each test performed.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Completion of high school or equivalent (GED). Successful graduation from an accredited program for nursing assistants, emergency medical technicians, or medical assistants.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification are mandatory.

SKILLS:

  • Exceptional service excellence skills to ensure high-quality patient care and satisfaction.
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to accurately obtain vital signs and protected health information (PHI).
  • Strong organizational capabilities; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Capacity to work independently and demonstrate initiative in identifying performance improvement opportunities.
  • Proficient in navigating computer software using a mouse, keyboard, or stylus, particularly in a Windows-based environment.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of experience in an inpatient or medical office setting, with direct patient interaction preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

- Responsible to: Clinic Manager

ENVIRONMENT: Requires an understanding of general safety protocols to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Daily interactions with infectious materials and bodily fluids are expected.

- Bloodborne pathogens: Category C

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The role involves bending, stooping, and lifting items weighing up to 35 lbs, as well as reaching above head and below knee level. Proper body mechanics must be utilized. The position may require prolonged periods of sitting. Keyboard usage should adhere to sound ergonomic principles. Flexibility in work schedule is necessary.
