Job Title: Software Asset Management Specialist

Creighton University is seeking a highly skilled Software Asset Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of software licenses, compliance, and vendor relationships within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with various teams to track software assets, optimize licensing costs, and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Negotiate licensing agreements and renewals with software vendors, ensuring favorable terms and pricing.
  • Facilitate the procurement of new licenses as needed, collaborating with procurement and legal teams to ensure compliance with vendor contracts.
  • Continuously monitor software license usage across the organization, conducting periodic audits to verify compliance with licensing terms.
  • Address any discrepancies or non-compliance issues promptly, collaborating with procurement and legal teams to ensure compliance with vendor contracts.
  • Manage software contracts, including initial procurement, renewals, and terminations, reviewing contracts thoroughly to ensure alignment with business needs and budget constraints.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all software assets, documenting license details, versions, and deployment information.
  • Implement tools or processes to discover and track software assets, analyzing software usage patterns and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Recommend consolidation of licenses where possible, optimizing license utilization to avoid unnecessary expenses.
  • Assist end-users with software-related inquiries, conducting training sessions on software usage and compliance, and addressing license-related issues promptly.
  • Generate reports on license compliance, usage, and costs, presenting findings to management and relevant stakeholders, and using data insights to enhance SAM processes.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in software asset management, IT asset management, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) or ITIL, are a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong technical understanding of IT services and software licensing models.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage complex data.
  • Ability to take on challenges and be accountable for software asset management tasks.
  • Basic financial knowledge to manage assets effectively.
  • Strong analytical capabilities for decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Awareness of legal aspects related to software licensing and compliance.
