Job Summary

The Maryland School for the Blind is seeking a highly skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide essential services to students with visual impairments, promoting independence and mobility in various environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and develop individualized Orientation and Mobility plans for students, ensuring their needs are met and goals are achieved.
  • Conduct in-service training programs for staff and students, sharing expertise and best practices in Orientation and Mobility.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support, including Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Social Workers.
  • Participate in school and student meetings, contributing to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other relevant documents.
  • Transport students to training sites, utilizing a personal vehicle and adhering to established safety protocols.
Requirements
  • Minimum of O&M Certification by a recognized University Program or Bachelor's Degree in O&M; ACVREP certification or certifiable in the field of Orientation and Mobility.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of O&M techniques, teaching approaches, and their application to students with multiple disabilities and visual impairments/blindness.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; business insurance required within the first month of employment.
