Job Summary

The Salt Lake City School District is seeking a highly qualified Paraprofessional I to assist in the supervision and instruction of students in an early childhood/preschool setting. As a key member of the educational team, the successful candidate will perform classroom tasks, support the instructional process, and contribute to a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Implement interventions, lesson plans, and age-appropriate hands-on learning activities to reinforce learning concepts and improve students' learning and academic success.
  • Fulfill students' learning and behavior plans to meet students' social and behavioral interventions, health care plans, and ensure compliance with IEPs.
  • Provide for the individual needs of students to ensure access to a quality educational program.
  • Monitor individual students in various settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assist teachers in evaluating student progress and implementing student objectives.
  • Prepare teaching materials, perform record-keeping and clerical functions, and organize related reports to implement lesson plans and document student progress.
  • Report incidents to maintain the personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to the Education Code, administrative and school policies.
  • Interact with families to relay information on student progress and encourage parental involvement.
  • Assist other personnel when needed to ensure an efficient and effective learning environment.
  • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform duties.
  • Participate in various meetings and workshops to receive and convey information.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following:
    • Completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or
    • Obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution, or
    • Satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher.
  • Hold or obtain a CPR/First Aid Certificate/Utah Food Handler Certificate within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledgeable of age-appropriate activities, stages of child development, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and concepts of learning.
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English, including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in an Early Childhood setting, K-12 education, or public employment environment.
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand.
