Position Overview
As the Chief Administrative Officer during the absence of Hospital Administrative Staff, this role is pivotal in liaising with various departments to address challenges when management is unavailable. Exceptional communication skills are essential for success in this position.Key Responsibilities
- Conducts rounds across all units to support nursing staff, offering guidance and mentorship to Charge Nurses and staff RNs. Gathers reports from Charge Nurses on critical aspects such as staffing levels, patient falls, complaints, and other issues.
- Collaborates with the Resource Staffing Department to maintain stable staffing levels throughout the facility.
- Engages with the Customer Service Department to address nursing-related service issues. Manages patient and family complaints effectively, documenting incidents and escalating them to the appropriate personnel.
- Partners with the Administrator on call to resolve customer grievances and facility-related issues, coordinating bed management and diversion matters.
- Reviews cases for the Medical Examiner/Coroner as necessary and ensures death certificates are completed accurately, addressing related matters as required.
- Works alongside Employee Health and Infection Control to uphold policies regarding patient and staff safety.
- Acts as Planning Chief and temporary Incident Commander during disaster situations, initiating necessary alerts.
- Coordinates with Security on various issues, including patient safety and facility emergencies.
- Assists Public Relations in managing media inquiries regarding patient conditions and public records.
- Serves as a resource for Nursing Management on policies and procedures, collaborating with Administration and Risk Management on sensitive issues.
- Handles urgent personnel matters in the absence of management, ensuring adherence to personnel policies and documenting actions taken.
- General Expectations: Demonstrates effective communication skills and serves as a role model for colleagues.
Management Responsibility
This position does not include management responsibilities and reports to a supervisor or director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- A minimum of 3 years of nursing experience is required; 5 years is preferred.
Licensure
Must possess a current South Carolina R.N. License.

Alternative Qualifications
In lieu of a BSN, a nursing diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing may be accepted if the candidate agrees to enroll in a BSN or MSN program within one year.
Work Schedule
Night shift availability is required.
