Your Role

We're seeking an experienced Senior API Engineer to join our performance team, reporting directly to our CTO. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for optimizing and extending our APIs, ensuring they're highly performant and scalable.

Key Responsibilities

  • You'll be the primary owner of our APIs, responsible for their performance, security, and reliability.
  • You'll work closely with our development team to optimize existing APIs, implementing new features and functionalities.
  • You'll design and implement performance tests for high-usage calls, using tools like K6 to identify areas for improvement.
  • You'll collaborate with our DevOps team to ensure logging and monitoring are sufficient to detect potential issues.
  • You'll lead the migration of our antiquated signature system to OAuth 2.0, using Kong as the authentication server.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails, with a strong focus on performance optimization.
  • Expertise in JavaScript, with experience in coding for performance test harnesses.
  • Experience building high-throughput Ruby/Rails back-ends, with knowledge of query optimization and web stack tuning.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI, Kong, and Datadog is a plus.
  • A proven track record in bringing clarity to ambiguous situations and facilitating technical discussions.
