Position Overview

The Cost Estimator/Project Coordinator role is pivotal in estimating, securing, and overseeing electrical projects from initiation to completion. This position encompasses responsibilities such as project estimation, negotiation participation, pre-construction planning, risk assessment, and overall project performance management, including financial oversight, safety compliance, schedule formulation, procurement, subcontractor oversight, and project finalization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively seek business opportunities while fostering strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Analyze proposal specifications and drawings to ascertain the scope of work and necessary components for the estimate.
  • Generate estimates by performing comprehensive takeoffs of the project scope and inputting data into the estimating software; ensure accuracy and completeness of the output.
  • Solicit quotes from suppliers for necessary equipment and materials.
  • Identify and engage qualified suppliers to obtain quotes, ensuring they align with project plans and specifications.
  • Detail and quantify all ancillary items required for bid packages, including subcontract work, equipment rentals, tools, and supplies.
  • Upon successful bid acceptance, thoroughly communicate the estimate, project scope, quotes, and other critical elements to ensure a smooth project transition.
  • Ensure timely completion of all documentation required by clients.
  • Draft letters outlining inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications related to estimates.
  • Maintain organized files of working documents to support estimate figures.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is desirable.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the construction sector is required.
  • A combination of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of construction technology, scheduling, equipment, and methodologies.
  • Proficient in performing arithmetic calculations necessary for estimating.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering design drawings.
  • Capability to identify and fulfill customer needs and expectations.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills to address various challenges in non-standardized situations.
  • Effective conflict resolution abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in mentoring and managing team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and proactive teamwork skills.
  • Understanding and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance in all duties.
