Job Title: Data Manager

The University of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Data Manager to join the Data Analytics Center (DAC) team within Research Computing. The DAC aims to provide computational expertise and infrastructure to advance research, contributing to UVA's innovative and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary contact for data management services within Research Computing, assisting researchers in selecting and integrating appropriate storage solutions.
  • Lead compliance assessments for data with regulatory requirements, collaborating with other units to establish suitable environments.
  • Advise UVA faculty on storage platforms, handling sensitive data, interpreting data-use agreements, and developing data transfer workflows.
  • Collaborate with research teams on data staging, permissions controls, and access management on RC systems.
  • Identify training needs for Data Management and Compliance, offering support and facilitating data sharing among research teams.
  • Work closely with UVA libraries to guide researchers on data management planning.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Administration, or related field emphasizing process or project management and at least 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong organizational skills for requirements solicitation, roadmap development, and milestone coordination.
  • Adaptability to diverse researchers and disciplines.
  • Collaborative nature with the ability to build relationships with researchers and support for team members.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency required due to working with RC's high-security data environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Credentialing or post-baccalaureate degree focused on data or project management.
  • 5 years of experience in academic research.
  • Proficiency in cloud storage and data transfer tools like Globus.
  • Experience handling highly sensitive data, understanding regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and writing skills.
Compensation:

The anticipated hiring range is $100,000 - $125,000 annually.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check prior to their first day of employment per University policy.

This is a term-limited position with an end date of July 1, 2028.
