Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled AML Mapping Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for administering the approved statewide Abandoned Mine Land Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct AML inventory fieldwork, including data collection and analysis
  • Develop and maintain spatial databases, utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Apply engineering principles and practices to support project development and management
  • Work independently and as a team member, with a focus on attention to detail and timely completion of assignments
  • Operate 4-wheel drive vehicles and perform basic maintenance, as needed

Requirements

  • Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles related to the duties of this position
  • Considerable knowledge of computer operations, spatial database design and operation, CAD, GIS, GPS, remote sensing technologies, and engineering principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to apply spatial database skills and engineering principles
  • Skills in use of engineering and scientific equipment, video and photographic equipment, personal computer, and computer systems
  • Ability to work in the field, navigate over rough terrain, and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in spatial database design and maintenance, and engineering principles, preferably in the mineral extraction industry
  • Registration or certification is desirable
