We are seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst II to join our Infection Prevention team at UNC Health. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in conducting community surveillance, participating in communicable disease and outbreak reporting and investigation, and supporting data analysis and quality improvement work.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct community surveillance activities, reviewing medical records to determine community infections that meet case definitions and forwarding required reports to the State Health Department.
- Coordinate submission of lab isolates/samples from the hospital to the State Laboratory of Public Health.
- Participate in public health investigations among hospitalized populations, serving as a liaison between hospitals and public health agencies for bioterrorism and new and emerging diseases.
- Assist with healthcare-associated infection outbreaks and investigations, working closely with public health departments to ensure implementation of appropriate control measures.
- Participate in and initiate projects related to prevention of infections in hospital and community settings, maintaining current knowledge of trends and issues with outcomes measurement/management, healthcare informatic systems, infection control practice and theory.
- Prepare statistical analysis and presentations regarding surveillance efforts, providing innovative analytical insights with large data sets.
- Conduct detailed data analysis on surveillance data used across the hospital to evaluate and improve processes, responding to data and product-related inquiries in real-time to support stakeholders.
- Perform various data analytics in SQL, MS Excel, and other data tools, using statistical models or industry-accepted tools.
- Provide relational database expertise to construct and execute SQL queries to be used in data analysis activities.
- Bachelor's degree in a general field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of experience if Bachelor's degree in a general field, no experience required if Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, no experience required if Master's degree, eight years of experience if Associate's degree, and ten years of experience if High School degree.
- Novice-level proficiency in SQL, working knowledge of relational databases, and understanding of the importance of leveraging existing reusable data sources for visualizations and analytics.
