Position Overview

WSP is in search of a seasoned Senior Geotechnical Consultant to join our Engineered Construction service line. This role encompasses a variety of projects within the energy, industrial, commercial, and governmental sectors. Responsibilities will include business development, client relations, project and program oversight, and the technical execution of projects exceeding $250k, focusing on both conventional and renewable energy initiatives, transportation infrastructure, and industrial/commercial ventures.

Your Contributions

The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility in assignments, a willingness to travel as needed, and a strong desire to learn. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading projects and driving business development efforts with a geotechnical and materials emphasis across various sectors.
  • Collaborating with clients to establish work programs and budgets, providing strategic leadership and oversight, and managing project execution.
  • Mentoring and supporting the development of junior staff.
  • Building and nurturing key client relationships, serving as the primary contact for project-related communications.
  • Assuming full managerial responsibility for all project aspects, including safety, scope definition, contract negotiations, cost management, staff oversight, quality assurance, and financial tracking on significant projects.
  • Coordinating work efforts and conducting senior reviews of deliverables.
  • Ensuring the successful and timely delivery of quality projects within budget, meeting client expectations.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in geotechnical projects.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina is mandatory (South Carolina licensure is also preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in team settings.
  • A solid reputation within the industry and familiarity with the local market.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable Attributes

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software tools (e.g., slope stability, settlement analysis, deep foundations, finite element modeling).
