Job Summary

Unity Health Care seeks a skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to provide high-quality medical care to patients in our Adult Health Services division. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive medical services, including preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, as well as counseling and health education to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic services to patients, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering laboratory/radiology testing as needed.
  • Make diagnoses and prescribe therapeutic measures of care, including legend drugs and controlled substances, while counseling patients and providing teaching for health maintenance and specific health problems.
  • Make appropriate referrals to specialists and hospitals, and recognize and manage common acute and chronic illnesses within your scope of practice.
  • Develop and participate in sick call, urgent care, intake, chronic care, and screening programs, and provide immediate emergency care as needed.
  • Collaborate with social workers, discharge planners, mental health clinicians, medical-clerical assistants, and physicians to ensure comprehensive care and follow-up for patients.
Requirements
  • Current DC RN license with certification by the ANCC or AANP, DEA license, and CDS license.
  • 2-3 years of experience in ambulatory care settings, with some contact with homeless patients preferred but not required.
Working Conditions

The Nurse Practitioner will work in a fast-paced office environment, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of constituencies. The position involves everyday risks and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, training rooms, and other UHC healthcare sites.
