Job Summary

As a key member of our organizing department, you will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, and developing worker leaders and community allies to build a strong and sustainable union.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective organizing strategies to engage workers and community members in the union's mission and goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with worker and community leaders, including identifying and recruiting new leaders and developing their skills and abilities.
  • Communicate the union's vision and plan to win union recognition to workers and community members, and lead organizing meetings to build support and momentum.
  • Conduct research and logistics of an organizing campaign, including analyzing challenges and prioritizing work to achieve goals.
  • Exercise leadership with workers and community members to move them to take action to build the union, and maintain regular and accurate reporting of work to the Organizing Director.
  • Collaborate with diverse groups of union staff and members to achieve common goals, and demonstrate a commitment to trade union principles and practices.
Requirements
  • Commitment to trade union principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal communication, listening, and organizing persuasion with workers, members, and community allies.
  • Proficiency in campaign organizing practices to overcome opposition and secure majority support among workers.
  • Ability to collaborate in team settings with diverse groups of union staff and members.
  • Self-organization and ability to analyze challenges and prioritize work.
  • Emotional intelligence and professional self-management under pressure.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of the union history, organization, divisions, and programs.
  • Proficiency in relevant state or federal labor practices.
  • Proficiency in field database systems.
  • Proficiency in professional and campaign writing.
  • Proficiency in word processing and email communication.
  • Punctuality and professional standards of behavior and appearance.
Working Conditions

This is a salaried position with long and irregular hours, frequent travel, and overnight stays. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and a vehicle, and demonstrate previous union, community, or political leadership experience.
