About the Role:

The Oncology Women's Health Service Line Coordinator will play a crucial role in facilitating coordination between clinicians and ensuring the efficiency of care for patients with gynecological and breast diseases. This position requires a nurse with advanced skills to work primarily during day shifts, Monday through Friday, with some travel between clinics and hospitals. Women's Health or Oncology clinical experience is preferred.

As a member of a collaborative healthcare team, the Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for determining patient health and medical status, performing physical exams, initiating screening and diagnostic procedures, providing health maintenance services, and managing pregnancy, minor trauma, acute illnesses, and stable chronic illnesses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of life span growth and development, assess patient data, and provide care according to departmental policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides quality service in a caring and professional manner, actively committing to team efforts, cost effectiveness, service excellence, and respect for everyone.
  • Utilizes automated computer systems, including electronic medical records, to conduct comprehensive health histories, perform physical, psychological, and developmental assessments, and analyze and interpret health data.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal physical, psychological, and developmental findings, determines when to consult with and/or refer to other members of the healthcare team, and initiates, implements, and prescribes appropriate treatment plans using established protocols.
  • Performs or requests laboratory and screening tests, conducts preventive screening procedures based on age and history, and accurately records changes in health status and assessment findings.
  • Administers medications and injections as needed, provides education, develops plans for continued healthcare management, and promotes health maintenance activities for patients.
  • Coordinates necessary appointments and referrals, including the use of community resources as indicated by patient needs, and acts as a resource to patients, other healthcare team members, the community, and various academic institutions.
Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Program, including preceptorship required.

Experience: One to three years of experience preferred. Additional experience may be required for some specialties.

Licensure/Certification: Current state Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP), DEA license, and Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required. AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced Life Support certification preferred.

Other: Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine. Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's malpractice insurance carrier. Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers. Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
