The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as a SCI/D RN Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the Central Virginia Veterans Affairs Health Care System. As a member of our team, you will provide exceptional care to our veteran patients with spinal cord injuries and disorders, utilizing your expertise in wound, ostomy, and continence nursing.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive wound care to patients with spinal cord injuries and disorders, including assessment, treatment, and education.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans to meet the unique needs of each patient.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care coordination and communication.
- Participate in wound care rounds and provide education to staff on wound care best practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient care, including wound assessments and treatment plans.
- Provide education to patients and families on wound care, ostomy care, and continence management.
- Participate in telehealth conferences to provide care to patients remotely.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Active wound certification (CWOCN) required.
- 2-5 years of experience in acute care setting, medical-surgical, wound/burn unit, home health care, and Spinal Cord Injury experience preferred.
This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands, both legs, and repeated bending. Heavy lifting (45 lbs. and over); Heavy Carrying (45 lbs. and over); Straight Pulling (up to 4 hours); Pushing (up to 4 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 8 hours); Standing (up to 8 hours); Repeated bending (up to 8 hours); Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Specific visual requirement: Read typed Chapters; Correctable vision :20/40 in one eye; Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
