- Animal Care/Handling/Maintenance of Animal Holding Facility: 5%

- Experience with sample and data management skills, including cataloging and filing of information, following protocols regarding sample storage, and learning computer programs for sample tracking and workload reporting.
- Working knowledge of diagnostic procedures and tests used in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory, including biological and environmental samples for microbiologic, immunologic, biotechnology, histologic, and clinical chemistry tests.
- Knowledge of animal diseases, sample selection, and types of testing performed in bacteriology, immunology, virology, toxicology, biotechnology, and clinical pathology related to animal diseases.
- Ability to effectively communicate with veterinary practitioners, owners, state and federal veterinarians/officials, and provide test results from information in the computerized CAHFS Laboratory Information System.
- Knowledge of regulations for intra and interstate transport/shipping of biohazardous materials and excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a wide variety of individuals.
- Ability to handle potentially infectious material, operate a microscope, laminar flow hood, centrifuges, analytical balances, volumetric glassware, pH meters, dishwashers, and autoclaves.
- Skills, knowledge, and ability to handle live and dead animals, as well as blood and tissues.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of veterinary diagnostic testing performed within the University of California and of resources available to clients for testing nationwide.
- Familiarity with University of California purchasing policies, procedures, and forms.
- This is a critical position, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), including but not limited to criminal record history background check(s).
