Clinical Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island. As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures, following approved policies and procedures, and ensuring the quality of testing being performed.
Key Responsibilities- Perform laboratory tests and procedures, including specimen processing and handling, testing of patient specimens, and calculating and reporting of results.
- Follow approved policies and procedures in performing specific methodologies and instrument operations, and follow approved policies for proper recording and reporting of results.
- Perform and document procedures required to ensure the quality of testing being performed, including quality control, instrument preventative maintenance, function checks, and calibration.
- Review patient results prior to release to the electronic medical record, correlate final results with known facts concerning patient history/previous values, and recognize the validity of results and identify/reject those results that are illogical.
- Communicate critical values and barriers to testing to medical staff according to protocol, and document according to laboratory policy.
- Complete assigned proficiency and competency assessments, and maintain sufficient testing supplies in work area, including ordering if directed by lead.
- Consistently generate and review pending logs, and enter Patient Safety Intelligence (PSI) as required.
- Participate in the training of new medical technologists/residents at the direction of seniors and lead technologists, and perform other duties as assigned.
- NYS Department of Health licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education, or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry, or physical sciences from an accredited college or university, or education requirement grandfathered by the NYSOP.
- One year of experience in a clinical laboratory, or completion of an internship at a qualified institution.
- NYS License.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- ASCP Certified.
- Excellent computer knowledge/skill.
