About the Role:

Duke Health seeks a Respiratory Therapist - PRN to perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the respiratory care services scope of practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of respiratory care principles, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with physician orders, ensuring timely and effective patient care.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of medical orders to ensure seamless delivery of care.
  • Apply mechanical ventilator modalities and Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) modalities to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Assist with endotracheal intubation and extubations under supervision, maintaining a safe and controlled environment.
  • Participate in emergency response teams, demonstrating expertise and composure under pressure.
  • Administer medical gases and insert nasogastric and orogastric tubes with precision and attention to detail.
  • Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection, prioritizing safety and comfort.
  • Interpret clinical data to inform decisions, optimizing patient care and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers during rounds, fostering open communication and cohesive care.

Requirements:

  • Completion of an AMA-approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or equivalent), reflecting a solid foundation in respiratory care.
  • Active North Carolina State licensure or provisional license, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), verifying expertise in respiratory care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and any other applicable certifications, reflecting ongoing professional development.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year

Estimated Salary: $70,000 per year
