Job Summary

PCSI is seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanic to join its team at the San Antonio (Camp Bullis) site. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing repair duties and ensuring the efficient operation of our heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on hydronic and refrigeration systems, including air handling units, DX coil/condensing units, fan coil units, and variable air volume (VAV) units.
  • Maintain, repair, or replace commercial/residential HVAC systems under 25 tons.
  • Follow mechanical codes for installing and replacing HVAC systems.
  • Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Install ductwork and chassis parts using portable tools and welding equipment.
  • Install evaporator units in chassis or air-duct systems using hand tools.
  • Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting/bending equipment/tools.
  • Cut and thread pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
  • Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solder joints using a torch.
  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power sources.
  • Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressures.
  • Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
  • Test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap and water solutions.
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electricians' hand tools and test equipment.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience and/or formal/vocational training.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Mechanical Journeyman License preferred, with the ability to obtain within three years recommended.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak the English language.

Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb ladders.
  • Frequently required to kneel, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Required to be able to lift 50 pounds up to 10 times per day.
  • Ability to cut, modify, thread, repair, and install steel or copper piping for natural gas or water piping using threading machines, MAPP gas, or Pro Press.
  • Requires ability to use hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction and supervision.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screenings.
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned sites.
