In our newly established Pediatric Unit, part of WellStone Emergency Services (WES), we focus on delivering exceptional care to youth aged 12-18 experiencing mental health crises. The Education Support Specialist plays a crucial role within a multidisciplinary treatment team, concentrating on the stabilization and educational development of our young clients. This position involves creating a nurturing and structured educational atmosphere tailored to the specific emotional and academic needs of adolescents. This is a first shift, Monday through Friday role.
Key Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.
- Experience in working with or instructing adolescents, ideally within a mental health or special education context.
- A solid understanding of adolescent development and associated mental health challenges.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork abilities with youth, mental health professionals, and external educators.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a genuine dedication to fostering academic and emotional success for students.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide engaging and tailored instruction across core subjects, ensuring accessibility for all students, regardless of their mental health conditions.
- Establish a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes both emotional well-being and academic achievement.
- Collaborate closely with mental health professionals, including therapists, counselors, and case managers, to support a holistic approach to each student's growth.
- Regularly evaluate and track students' academic progress, adjusting teaching strategies to accommodate evolving needs and capabilities.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with students' schools, families, and team members regarding academic and behavioral development.
- Be equipped to manage crisis situations calmly and professionally, adhering to established safety protocols.
- Engage in continuous training and professional development focused on mental health, trauma-informed practices, and special education methodologies.
